 practical art

Practical art is about two things: Firstly a testament to manufacturing in Australia in a time before the time of 'planned obsolescence, this was the time when manufacturers build devices as if it would the last one you would need to buy. This was the time where things were made to last. All the desk fans on display were made in the Melbourne area in the 1950's and 1960's and operate on only 240VAC.

Secondarily, the devices have been given a renewed life in order to show the quality of the build and become a show piece of another time. The devices have been completely stripped and revitalized. They are finished by polishing the aluminum skin complemented with paint. The wiring and rubber components are all replaced with new materials and they are all certified for safe operation. The fans all operate very, however there is no guarantee for how long.  The fans would be ideal in any household or 'man cave' wanting to retain are part of Australian manufacturing history.

The devices on display are all for sale, prices upon application. Each fan is accompanied with a jar of 'Mothers' Aluminum polish.

There is also a service available for renovating owned devices at a set price.
